Practicing Advisor Member

Practicing Advisor Members are those that are actively providing financial advice to consumers.

Requirements:

Privileges:

  • Paying members in this category receive one vote
  • Full access to all membership benefits, value and all resources
  • Option to register their assistant(s) for a flat fee per person. Assistants would need to adhere to the Advocis Code of Professional Conduct and would have access to member resources and member pricing but do not have voting privileges.

Manager Member

Manager Members are leaders in the financial services industry in Canada who are directly or indirectly responsible for recruiting/retaining, coaching, training, education, business development, or managing financial advisors and/or planners.

The role of a Manager Member should include some or all of the following concepts:

  • Coaching & leadership
  • Business development (including marketing, practice management, compliance andtechnology)
  • Training and education
  • Recruitment, selection and retention

  • Paying members in this category (excluding Member’s Assistants) receive one vote
  • Full access to all membership benefits, value and all resources
  • Membership with GAMA International Canada and affiliate membership with GAMA International US.
  • Option to register their assistant(s) for a flat fee per person. Assistants would need to adhere to the Advocis Code of Professional Conduct and would have access to member resources and member pricing but do not have voting privileges.

Member's Assistant

Member’s Assistant Members are those that are in the employ of, or directly supervised by, a Practicing Advisor Member or Manager Member of Advocis. A Member’s Assistant Member may or may not be licensed, but is not offering or soliciting independent financial to clients.

  • Member’s Assistant Members do not have voting privileges

Student Member

Student Members are those that are entering the financial services industry for the first time, have never offered financial advice and are not mutual funds or securities licensed. They are registered in the Advocis/Foran LLQP or in a full time financial services program of study at a recognized educational institution.

Associate Member

Associate Members are those that are involved in a related profession or are interested in working within the financial services industry, and who are not eligible for membership in any other membership category. They may be in an executive management or specialist role within an organization in the financial services industry.

Legacy Member

Current Categories: Retired Member, Life Member

Legacy Members are those with more than 35 years of membership in Advocis (and/or it’s predecessor organizations) who are either retired or working no more than 30 hours per month in the financial services industry in activities such as servicing clients, but are not actively pursuing new business.
